Tips For Ear Health

7 TIPS FOR EAR HEALTH.

We all know how swimming can affect the health of the hearing organ. However, in addition to this, there are a number of reasons for the occurrence of ear diseases, for example, the love of listening to loud music on headphones and air travel, accompanied by pressure drops. Here are some tips that will help you keep your hearing healthy, not only in the summer, but all year round.

1: Avoid listening to super-loud music.

As a result of a survey of children of senior school age, it turned out that 28% of them are forced to turn up the volume while watching TV in order to hear it comfortably. Approximately the same number of children (29%)regularly ask the interlocutor about what he said, using the words “a” and “what”. A smaller, but also very significant proportion (17%) regularly hear noise or ringing in the ears. So far, all these symptoms have been observed in older people. However, in recent years, the problem has significantly “younger”. Listening to music through headphones leads to a direct directional effect of sound waves on the inner ear. As a result, damage occurs to sensory cells that convert sound vibrations into a nerve impulse that is perceived directly by our brain. In this case, hearing loss can occur both as a result of prolonged exposure to loud sounds, and as a result of a sudden super-loud defeat. The sound in the headphones must be at such a volume that others cannot hear it. If you do not hear the sound of an approaching car, then the sound is too loud. To maintain your hearing acuity, experts advise you to follow the following rules: Limit the time you listen to music on your headphones to one hour a day. Set a maximum volume limit for your headphones. This will avoid amplifying the sound due to the presence of external interfering noise.

Do not sit in front of the stage or near a strong sound source if you are going to a concert or a movie. Parents need to remember not to let children fall asleep with headphones in their ears, and also to limit the maximum permissible sound volume (no more than 60 decibels).

2: Avoid brushing your ears too aggressively.

Despite the unattractive appearance of earwax, it performs an important protective function of the ear canal. Therefore, otolaryngologists urge to avoid deep cleaning of the ears, since after that the sulfur clogs deeper and becomes denser, which makes it difficult to extract it further. The most favorable is cleaning in the conditions of the otolaryngologist's office.

3: Adequate therapy for diver's otitis media.

The so-called "diver's otitis media" occurs after infection with bacteria that live in large numbers in water bodies. The entry of bacteria into the ear canal, in which the environment for their habitat is very favorable, leads to their reproduction and inflammatory reaction. Ear canal injuries and previous diseases are favorable conditions for the onset of the disease. Infection is evidenced by itching in the ear canal, increased sensitivity, pain and swelling soon appear. The tactics of an otolaryngologist boils down to cleansing the ear canal from pathogenic contents, ear drops are prescribed to the patient. It is not recommended to use ear plugs while swimming in the pool and other bodies of water, as this can cause injury. This also applies to people who wear hearing aids. While swimming, it is recommended to refuse to use them.

 4: Only pierce the earlobe.

The earlobe has a good blood supply, so any injury, including piercing, heals quickly and rarely becomes infected. This cannot be said about the cartilaginous part of the auricle. The fight against its infection can be delayed and lead to serious consequences.Care for the puncture should be strictly in accordance with the recommendations of a specialist. Several times a day, you should wipe the adjacent area with a cotton swab moistened with an alcohol solution. If you find redness and experience pain at the puncture site, then this may indicate an infection of the wound. If the use of antibacterial creams did not bring relief, then you should get rid of the piercing and create conditions favorable for the overgrowth of the channel.

5: Choose jewelry.

If you're having an allergic reaction while wearing your earrings, nickel may be the cause. You should change your jewelry to earrings made of gold or stainless steel.

6: Protect your ears from the sun.

It should also be noted that the auricle needs protection from sunlight no less than the rest of the skin. Apply sunscreen, avoiding getting inside the ear canal. If you find a suspicious red pigment spot that may peel or bleed, you should immediately contact a dermatologist.

7: Be prepared for air travel.

If the child starts screaming during landing, this is a good sign. The difference in pressure acting on the eardrum can lead to barotrauma and cause severe pain, bleeding, and even rupture. Therefore, do not let your child sleep while the plane is landing. Better offer him a pacifier, a bottle of water, or a lollipop, depending on age. Take care of your ears!
